About
My Story
I have always loved art and crafts, though my day job had been in book keeping and business. When work became scarce during the recession, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to focus on my creative side.
After a portfolio preparation course in Kerry College of Further Education, I went on to receive a degree in Ceramics and Design from Limerick School of Art and Design and then set up my own ceramics business, combining both business experience and art skills.
I take a lot of inspiration from nature and the Kerry landscape for my pieces. My final year project for my degree was primarily based around the spectacular Skellig Islands and the ingenuity of the monks that once lived there. The monk's ability to survive, using the very little they had around them inspired me to source my materials and base my designs, as much as possible, from what is around me.
Living in Kerry, there is a wealth of materials and inspiration outside my door. I use several different ashes in my glazes : turf, wood, organic oat husk (supplied by the wonderful people in The Merry Mill) which makes for a more sustainably made product and gives the pieces their own distinctive look and feel.
